Brenda from Elmhurst, IL said, “The alcohol was very affordable, we bought two bottles of peach honey wine to take home. My favorite cider was Autumn Apple, my fiancés favorite was Flannel Mouth.”

And Michelle from Ferndale, MI said, “Great Cider!  I had 3 different types.  One was a lavender cider very good the other was cinnamon and last was a hopped apple cider.  All of them were great.”

There’s no doubt in our mind that hard cider alone is pretty darn good (when done the right way, of course). But why not ‘step things up a notch or two’ and use it as a base for an interesting boozy beverage you and the whole family can enjoy on your backyard patio or under the warmth of your fireplace?

In this article we are going to share with you five of our favorite hard cider homemade cocktail recipes for you to enjoy. This is a cool and fun way to show off your bar tendering skills without any of the hassle of being at an actual bar. All of them take no more than a few minutes tops to create, and if you take pleasure in a good cocktail mix, you’ll love what we have in store for you below, starting with…

Granny’s Navy Grog

Ingredients: 2 ounces dark rum, 2 ounces light rum, 2 ounces grapefruit juice, from 1 medium grapefruit, 1/2 ounce lemon juice (from 1 lemon), 1 ounce simple syrup (see note below), 4 ounces Woodchuck Granny Smith Cider, Grapefruit peel (optional)

Makes: 2 (two) drinks

Total Time: 5 (five) minutes

Instructions: To create simple syrup, combine one cup water and one cup sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves. Chill before using. Simple syrup lasts up to 5 days in a sealed container (mason jar, for example) in the refrigerator.

Now fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add dark and light rum, grapefruit and lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake for 20 seconds until chilled.

Next, split evenly between two ice-filled highball glasses. Top each glass with 2 ounces of cider, stir to combine, garnish with grapefruit peel if you like, serve.

Pom Pomme

Ingredients: 2 ounces pomegranate juice, 2 ounces ginger liqueur (such as Domaine de Canton), 1 ounce apple brandy (such as Laird’s Apple Brandy 100 proof), 2 ounces Crispin original cider

Makes: 2 cocktails

Total Time: 5 minutes

Instructions: Fill cocktail shaker to the brim with ice. Add pomegranate juice, ginger liqueur, and apple brandy. Shake until well-chilled, roughly 20 seconds. Strain evenly into two coupe glasses than top each glass off with an ounce of Crispin original cider and serve.

Sazerac and Cider

Ingredients: 2 sugar cubes, 6 dashes Peychaud’s bitters, 3 ounces rye (such as Rittenhouse 100 proof), 2 dashes Pernod Absinthe, 4 ounces Crispin Original Cider, Ice, Lemon peel (optional)

Makes: 2 (two) cocktails

Total Time: 5 (five) minutes

Instructions: In a mixing glass, saturate sugar cubes with the bitters and muddle to break down sugar cubes. Add ice and rye. Stir until chilled and sugar almost totally dissolved.

Put a dash of absinthe in each serving glass, swirling it around to coat the glass evenly, discarding extra. Fill the glasses with ice.

Strain the chilled rye mix evenly between the two serving glasses and top each one with two ounces of cider. Garnish with lemon peel if you wish. Serve.

Cider and Rye

Ingredients: High West Rendezvous Rye (preferred), any pure hard cider of choice (we use Blake’s Gin and Tonic)

Makes: 1 (one) cocktail

Total Time: 5 (five) minutes

Instructions: Fill a tall glass with ice. Combine 1 (one) ounce of rye and 4 (four) ounces of Blake’s Gin and Tonic hard cider. We like a dash of Angostura bitters in there, too, but it’s a matter of preference and not mandatory. No garnish necessary. Drink and repeat as desired.

Very simple hard cider cocktail mix, but has quit a ‘kick’ to it

Scottish Orchard

Ingredients: Combine 2 (two) ounces of blended Scotch in a mixing glass with ice, 1/4th ounce of honey syrup (honey cut with an equal part of hot water, so it dissolves properly) and 2 (two) dashes of Angostura bitters.

Stir until good and cold, then strain into a cocktail glass. Top it off with two ounces of your favorite Blake’s hard apple cider, and garnish with a lemon peel and a cherry if desired.

Makes: 1 (one) cocktail

Total Time: 5 (five) minutes
